How to Kill Microsoft Messenger

Microsoft Windows Messenger comes installed with computers by default. While many users like using this program as their instant messenger, some seek to remove it due to how much of a resource hog it can be. Unfortunately, killing Messenger isn't as easy as simply removing the program through the Control Panel. Rather, you will need to follow a specific method to successfully kill Messenger in XP, Vista or 7.

Instructions

    • 2

Press the "F8" key a few times at the first screen after rebooting the computer. Select "Safe Mode" from the boot options menu that appears.

    • 4

Click the "Start" button located on the bottom left of the screen.

    • 5

Click "Settings > Control Panel" in Windows XP. In Windows Vista/7, click "Control Panel."
