How to Graph Problems on an HP 50G

The HP 50g is a powerful, handheld calculator made by the Hewlett Packard company. The calculator has the power to solve equations, plot functions, chart histograms and perform just about any calculation you could need to solve for most math classes. Graphing problems by hand is tedious and time-consuming. However, with the HP 50g, you can enter your data and graph the solution to an equation in a matter of minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Bring up the 2D/3D window. Press the "left shift" key (this key looks like a curved left arrow), and then press "F4."

    • 2

Place the cursor on the "EQ:" field and press the "EDIT" menu label.

    • 3

Enter the equation you want to graph. There's no need to enter the "Y=." For example, if you want to graph y=x+1, type "x+1."

    • 4

Press "F2" for the menu to choose the plot type.

    • 5

Press "F6" to draw the equation on the screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can solve a system of linear equations by graphing two equations at once. The intersection of the two lines (in other words, where the two lines cross), is the solution to the system.
