How Do I Get My Contacts From My Old Phone Into My New Blackberry?

With today's heavy reliance on address books, most people simply don’t know more than one or two of their contact numbers off the top of their head. One of the most common concerns when you get a new BlackBerry is how to transfer your contact files from your old phone as quickly as possible. BlackBerry phones come with a free program, called the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, that makes it easy to transfer user data from one device to the other.

Things You'll Need

  • USB cables to correspond to both the old phone and the new BlackBerry phone

Click “Device Switch Wizard” on the BlackBerry Desktop Manager home page. Click “Start” under the heading that best describes the type of operating system for your old phone.

    • 3

Select “Device data and options” under the Options heading; this will include your contact files. Click “Next.” Disconnect your old phone from your computer when the progress bar shows that the import information progress is complete.

    • 4

Connect your new BlackBerry phone to your computer using the proper USB cable. Click “Next” and wait for the data you just imported to be downloaded onto your new BlackBerry. Disconnect your new BlackBerry when you see the confirmation message that the process was successful.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also transfer third party applications during this process by simply checking “Third party apps” in addition to “Device data and options” in Step 3.

  • This process is designed for the transfer of user data between Palm, Windows Mobile and BlackBerry Research in Motion operating systems. If your old phone uses an Android, Apple or other operating system, you should contact your mobile service provider for technical support.
