How to Fix Rusty Drain Pipes
Without proper cleaning, metal drain covers will become rusty over time. If the metal drain cover is rusty, the drain pipes are surely rusty and must be cleaned before the rust eats away at the pipes and makes them weak. If left to rust, the pipes can crack, resulting in a very expensive repair bill. Thus, taking the time to clean them is a worthy endeavor. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Rubber gloves
- Goggles
- Flathead screwdriver
- Wire pipe cleaner brush
- CLR or another rust remover

Put on rubber gloves and safety goggles.

Unscrew the drain cover with the flathead screwdriver to expose the rusty drain pipe.

Force the wire pipe cleaner brush in and out of the pipe to remove any large rust chucks.

Pour rust remover onto the pipe cleaner brush. Force the brush in and out of the drain pipe for several minutes.

Pour two cups of rust remover down the drain. Let it soak for an hour.

Run a gallon of water down the drain pipe to flush the rust remover through the drain pipe completely.

Screw the drain cover back down.
