How Do I Get My Yahoo Email Using Outlook Express?

People are using email more than ever before. Many of them want access to their email to be seamless, easy and readily available. One way to achieve this ease of use is to use your email client of choice to send and receive email through the service provider of your choice. Outlook Express (OE) users with a Yahoo! Plus email account can configure OE so they can get their emails through this very popular email management software.

Instructions

    • 1

Start Outlook Express, select the "Tools" menu, click on "Accounts" and select the "Internet Accounts" tab.

    • 2

Type in the display name you wish to use, the name that recipients of your email will see as the sender. Click the "Mail" tab and then "Add > Mail." The Internet Connection Wizard will open.

    • 3

Enter your Yahoo! Mail Plus email address (including the @yahoo.com portion) into the text box, and click "Next." Click to choose "POP3" as the incoming mail server type. Enter "plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com" (without the quote marks) in the text box for the incoming mail server.

    • 4

Click "SMTP" as the outgoing mail server type. Enter "plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com" (again, without the quote marks) as the outgoing mail server, and click "Next."

    • 5

Enter your Yahoo! Mail Plus user name. This is the same as your email address, but do not type in "@yahoo.com" this time. Enter your password for the account. Check the "Remember Password" check box if you don't want to have to enter it every time you send and receive email.

    • 6

Look at the "Log on using Secure..." check box and click so that there is NOT a check mark there. Click on "Next," and "Finish."

    • 7

Click on the "Tools" menu from the main screen of OE, and select "Account." Select the email account you have just created. It will be labeled as "plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com."

    • 8

Click "Properties" and then the "Servers" tab. Place a check mark in the "My server requires authentication" check box.

    • 9

Click the "Advanced" tab. Enter "465" into the "Outgoing Mail" text box. Place a mark there. Enter "995" into the "Incoming Mail" text box and place a mark there too. Click "OK," then "Close" to complete the job.
