How To Knit a Koozie for a Cell Phone

You can purchase your own cell phone koozie at the store, but you will have to select from only the commercial options available. Instead, try knitting your own cell phone koozie; you will be able to choose the yarn and colors you like and knit your koozie to the size that is a perfect fit for your phone. You will need a basic understanding of knit and purl stitches, casting on and binding off in order to complete this project.

Things You'll Need

  • Worsted-weight yarn
  • Knitting needles, size 8
  • Large-eye blunt needle

Instructions

    • 1

Using worsted-weight yarn and size 8 knitting needles, cast on 20 stitches. For row one, knit two stitches and purl two stitches; repeat this pattern across the row. You will end with two purled stitches.

    • 2

Repeat your pattern of knit two, purl two across several more rows until the length of your koozie is approximately 1/2 inch longer than your cell phone.

    • 3

Bind off your next row of stitches using a knit two, purl two pattern. Leave a long tail when you finish off the last stitch.

    • 4

Fold the koozie together lengthwise with right sides facing. Sew down the long side and across the bottom edge using the long tail from your bind off and a large eye blunt needle.

    • 5

Turn the koozie right side out and slip your phone into the pocket you have created. Your cell phone koozie is complete and ready to use.

Tips & Warnings

  • If 20 stitches makes this koozie too wide for your phone, cast on fewer stitches. Just keep your cast-on in even numbers so you can use the knit two, purl two ribbing. The ribbing will allow the koozie to stretch, so you should make it slightly slimmer than the width of your phone.
