Coloring your hair blond can be a tricky task. Leave the product on too long, or not long enough, and you may end up with disastrous results. One of the most common mistakes that can occur when lightening your hair is that your tresses will turn a brassy shade of orange rather than blond. It's an easy fix, but you'll need to add toner to your hair every few months to keep the brassiness away.

Purchase a toner kit, which will contain all of the products you need: gloves, toner and an application bottle (contents will vary depending on the type of toner you use).

Put on your gloves and apply the toner to only the brassy areas of your hair. You can purchase cream-based toners, or liquid toners that must be mixed.

Leave the toner on your hair according to package directions. Some toners will be left on for 10 minutes, while others will need to stay on for 30 minutes.

Rinse out the toner. Use warm water and continue to rinse until the water from your hair runs clear. Dry and style your hair as you normally would. You may need to repeat in two months once the toner has washed out completely.
