For those with severe allergies, anaphylaxis is a daily threat. Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that can result in death if not treated immediately. EpiPens are designed to be an immediate treatment for anaphylaxis. If you are prone to severe allergic reactions, your doctor may recommend that you carry one on you at all times. Having an EpiPen around for emergency situations can be a literal lifesaver if you know how to use it correctly.

Instructions

    • 1

      Remove the EpiPen from the package and remove the gray cap on the end.

      Hold the EpiPen in your fist.

    • 3

      Hold the black tip against your outer thigh at a right angle.

    • 4

      Press the EpiPen into your thigh to activate it and hold it there for 10 seconds.

    • 5

      Pull the needle straight out of your thigh.

    • 6

      Use your fingers to massage your leg where the EpiPen was injected.

Tips & Warnings

  • Press the needle against a hard surface to bend it before disposing of it in the amber carrying tube.

  • The EpiPen can penetrate clothing in case there is no time to remove it.

  • If the EpiPen is past its expiration date it is still usable. Just make sure that the liquid inside is clear.
