How to get a high score on the Praxis test

Taking the Praxis test is an important step in becoming a licensed teacher.
In most states, receiving a satisfactory score on Praxis testing is required in order to receive teacher certification.

There are two types of Praxis testing. These types are the Praxis I and Praxis II. The Praxis I tests prospective teachers on elementary school subject knowledge. The Praxis II tests exam takers on specific subject matter such as Biology and accesses knowledge of those who for instance would like to be a Biology teacher. If you want to become a high school teacher, most state education departments require you to take the Praxis II and earn a satisfactory score set by the state.
In order to get a high score, you will need to take certain measures to prepare for the test.

   **Obtain Praxis study guides**

   Get study guides to prepare yourself for the praxis test. You can obtain these study guides from your area library. You can also purchase study guides. Purchasing study guides may be a better option for you if you want the most recent information. Sometimes libraries do not carry the most up to date books especially study reference books. If possible, make sure that you get the most recent study books in order to maximize your chances of doing well on the Praxis test.

   **Set a study schedule**

   Create a study schedule for studying for the Praxis test. Once you have a Praxis study guide or Praxis practice test book, write out a schedule reserving at least 10 hours a week to devote to studying for the exam.
   If you know that you are a morning person and would study better in the morning, set aside at least two hours to study. Likewise, if you are a night person set aside time at night for you to study.

   **Write down information and form a study group**

   Write down information that may be confusing to you and come back to the subject area that you are having a hard time with. Take additional time to study on information that is hard for you to understand.
   You can also form a study group with others who are working on their teacher certification. Having a study group can help you better see what your testing weaknesses are. Knowing your weaknesses and becoming a better test taker will be beneficial in the long run. This can be a way to achieve a high score on the Praxis exam.

4. **Take the exam**

   When taking the exam, do not rush through the exam. You can make valuable mistakes if you rush through the exam. Taking your time and processing each question before answering can help better your chances of getting a high score on the Praxis test.

Tips & Warnings

• Get a study guide that includes a CD-ROM if you prefer taking a practice test from a computer. Some CD-ROMS include tutorials on taking practice Praxis tests. Many CD-ROMS also include testing tips and techniques.

• Give yourself at least five months to study before you take the Praxis test.

• Do not wait until the last minute to study. You will want to have ample time to study since Praxis testing can at times pose as a challenge.
