How Do I Forward a Port in Utorrent 1.8?

In file-sharing terminology, the phrase "port forwarding" refers to a user instructing a program to forward all network activity to a specific, opened port on a computer router. This can be done to increase data transfer speeds as well as to mask the IP address of the original user. In uTorrent 1.8, the act of port forwarding involves little more than accessing the program's "Settings" menu.

Instructions

1. Open uTorrent 1.8.

2. Click "Options."

3. Click "Preferences."

4. Click "Connection."

5. Change the value under "Listening Port" to reflect the port on your network router you want to use for port forwarding.

6. Click "OK." This will save your port forwarding related changes, exit the "Preferences" screen and return you to the main uTorrent program window.
