How to Change an Icon to Run As an Administrator in Vista

By default, most applications in Windows Vista do not run with Administrator privileges enabled. This is a feature used to help protect the computer, but if there is an application that you frequently open and have to select the "Run as Administrator" button each time, it can become tiresome. With a quick tweak using the application's icon, though, you'll be able to make any application on your computer automatically run with Administrator privileges enabled.

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click on the icon for the program that you wish to run as an Administrator.

    • 2

Select the Properties option and then click on the Shortcut tab.

    • 3

Click the Advanced button and then check the box labeled "Run as Administrator."

    • 4

Click the OK button to save your changes and then exit the Properties window. The next time you go to run that particular application, it will run with Administrator privileges enabled without you needing to do anything extra.
