Securing your computer with a password will enable you to protect it against people who try to access your files or log on to your computer without your permission. Locking your computer with a password is easy to do and doesn't require any computer skills. Remember, though, if you forget your password, it will be extremely difficult (if not impossible) to get back into the computer, so choose a password that's easy to remember.

      Click "Start," open the control panel and go into the user accounts section.

      Select the user account to which you want to assign a password. Note that you will need to be an administrator-level user if you want to add a password to an administrator-level user account.

      Click on the "Create a password" button and type in the password you want to use.

      Type in a password phrase or hint, if you wish, and then click on the "Create Password" button. The next time you log off and try to log back in to the computer, you will be prompted to enter the password you just created.
