How to Download Music to an iPod from a CD ROM Drive

Compact Discs were the only format on which to buy and store music just a few years ago. With MP3 players like the iPod taking over, a lot of people have made the transition to an MP3 player but are now unsure of what to do with all their CDs. Instead of tossing out or ignoring your CD collection, just convert the songs on your CD or CD-ROM with iTunes and then add them to your iPod or iPhone device.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open the iTunes software.

    • 2

Insert the CD-ROM disc into the CD-ROM drive. Wait for iTunes to recognize the CD-ROM disc.

    • 3

Click "Yes" for the question: "Would you like to import the CD into your iTunes Library?" It may take a few minutes to import the contents of the CD-ROM disc.

    • 4

Uncheck any songs from the list of songs on your CD-ROM in the iTunes window that you do not want converted and added to Music folder in the iTunes library. Or, if you want to add all of the CD's songs to your iTunes library, leave all the songs checked.

    • 5

Remove the CD and plug your iPod into your computer. Wait for iTunes to recognize your iPod.

    • 6

Go to "File" on your iTunes window. Select "New Playlist." Then name your playlist whatever you want. (The new playlist will form under "Playlist" not under "Device," you will have to move the playlist later.)

    • 7

Click on the "Music" folder in Library menu on the left-hand side of your iTunes window.

    • 8

Right-click on the album or song you just uploaded, and then select "Add to playlist." You will then be given the option of adding to any playlists that you created. Click on the playlist that you want. iTunes will copy all the songs to the new playlists.

    • 9

Drag the playlist from the "Playlists" menu at the bottom-left of the window to your iPod under "Devices." The music will upload automatically.
