Schedule your exams. A+ Certification requires two exams: an Essentials exam and a Practical Application exam. Once you determine your location, contact the testing center to schedule an appointment. You can take both exams at the same time, or you may schedule separate appointments for each one.

Pay for your exams. You can purchase test vouchers used to pay for certification exams through CompTIA, Pearson VUE or Prometric.

    • 4

Prepare for the exams. The CompTIA website provides information on the exam objectives as well as practice questions.

    • 5

Take the exams. The exams take approximately 90 minutes each. The first exam consists of 100 questions covering installation, preventative maintenance, networking, security and customer service. The second exam is also 100 questions but focuses on hands-on applications and troubleshooting.

    • 6

Verify your test score. Passing scores are 675 for the Essentials exam and 700 for the Practical Application exam. Scores are on a scale of 100 to 900.

Receive your certification. If you pass the exams, you will receive your certificate and ID card within four to six weeks of passing your exam. You can track the status of your certifications on the CompTIA website once you have registered online.
