How Do You Locate a D Drive?

The D drive refers to either a hard drive (Local Disk (D:)) or an optical drive (Drive (D:)). However, it is also possible to change the drive letters so that the D Drive will be a flash drive or some other miscellaneous drive. Locating the D Drive is a simple task and can be done in a very short amount of time.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the desktop of your screen. Click on the "My Computer" tab.

    • 2

Locate the hard drives. If the D drive is a hard drive, it will appear as "Local Disk (D:)."

    • 3

Search for the optical drives. If the D drive is an optical drive, it may appear as "DVD RW Drive (D:)" or "CD R Drive (D:)."

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have only one hard drive and no optical drive, the D drive may even appear as a flash drive, such as an USB stick.
