How to Remove Marble Calcium Deposits thumbnail
Clean calcium deposits off your marble regularly to prevent build-up.

Marble in your bathroom can become stained with calcium deposits over time. If you live in an area with hard water, you will regularly encounter calcium deposits from the high mineral content of your town's water supply. Remove the calcium deposits as soon as you notice them, since older deposits are more difficult to remove. If left untreated, these can permanently stain your marble. To keep your marble fixtures looking new, treat them once a month for calcium deposits as part of your regular bathroom cleaning. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Mix 1/2 cup of ammonia and 1 gallon of water in a bucket.

    • 2

Scrub the calcium deposits in your bathroom with the ammonia solution. Use a stiff-bristled scrub brush to work the cleaner into the calcium deposits. Allow the solution to sit for 10 minutes.

    • 3

Rinse the solution away. Repeat this process one more time if necessary.

    • 4

Apply a lime cleaner to a small area of your marble if you still have calcium deposits. Certain types of marble may stain or "etch" from these cleaners. Wait two to three minutes, then rinse away the lime cleaner. Inspect your marble. If the marble discolors or appears blotchy, do not use the lime cleaner.

Apply the lime cleaner to your marble if you see no evidence of etching. Leave the cleaner on for the recommended amount of time. Then rinse it away.

Tips & Warnings

  • Call a professional to sand your marble and apply a new coat of sealant if you still have evidence of calcium deposit.

  • Try any pH-balanced cleaner on your marble stains.

  • Never use vinegar cleaners, orange cleaners or any type of acidic cleaner on marble. This can be very damaging to your marble.
