Evening gloves are sometimes hard to find, but they’re coming back in style and are perfect for so many occasions. Wear your gloves to weddings, parties and dinner dates. They nicely dress up an evening gown or cocktail dress. Evening gloves also go well with a dressy coat. Plus, you can easily make your own pair of glamour gloves of any length and material. 1
Choose your fabric. Make sure it's elegant, yet stretchy. Lace can be a great option, but Lycra has more give.
-
2
Choose the color. Black or white can go with everything you own. Or match the gloves to your dress.
-
-
3
Buy an elasticized thread that matches your glove fabric.
-
4
Fold the cloth with the right sides together. Place the fabric on top of old newspaper or pattern paper. If you use newspaper, you may need to place a piece of paper between the fabric and newspaper so the newspaper doesn’t blacken the fabric.
-
5
Lay your whole hand and arm down as flat as possible on the piece of newspaper or pattern paper. Outstretch your fingers except for your thumb. Otherwise, there will be too much space between the curve and the thumb.
-
6
Use a permanent marker to draw from the outside of the elbow to the wrist, leaving 1/2-inch extra space between your arm and the pattern, to make a long glove. Continue drawing around your fingers, drawing an extra 1/2 of space above the tip of each of your fingers. Draw around past your thumb and to the inside of your elbow.
-
7
Cut the pattern.
-
8
Sew from the edge of the mid-hole arm. For shorter gloves, sew from the armhole to a couple of inches down the hand. Sew a hem into the arm hold opening, turn under ½ inch, then stitch it again.
-
9
Back tack the arm or wrist seam and continue sewing around the fingers. Make small snips from the edge to the stitches around each finger before turning the glove. Place the snips from the base of the fingers, the top of the fingers, and the bottom of the fingers; every 1 ½ inch.
-
10
Trim very near the stitches. This will help shape the finger holes when you put on the gloves. Over-lock with your sewing machine or stretch nylon thread.
-
11
Add the elastic at the wrist of your gloves. Place the elastic underneath the hem edge. Sew the elastic across the wrist of the glove while pulling slightly. Back tack the elastic and sew the rest of the seam.

Tips & Warnings
Never draw a pattern straight up and down or across. You want to cut the pattern at an angle, somewhat horizontally or vertically.
