How to Re-Peak a Dish Network Satellite Dish

High winds, installing Christmas lights or everyday wear and tear can cause your Dish Network satellite dish to move slightly, which could negatively affect the signal. Instead of settling for a satellite signal that’s not as good as it can be, re-peak the satellite signal to bring it back up to par. Because the satellite dish is already installed, and it’s been tuned in before, it shouldn’t take a lot of work to fine-tune satellite signals.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the line of sight between your satellite dish and the satellite. Look up in the direction where your satellite points to see if there is a tree that has grown up or if a new building blocks part of your line of sight. You may be able to move your satellite dish if a building is in the way, or trim back a tree if your line of sight is blocked.

Access the signal meter in your Dish Network satellite menu. Press “Menu” on your Dish Network remote and then “System Setup,” “Installation” and “Point Dish.” At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see a signal-strength meter. One person should monitor this while a second person adjusts the satellite dish. As the signal improves, it will show up as a stronger signal on your meter. If the signal quality decreases, that will show up as well.

    • 3

Loosen the bolts on the back and side of your satellite dish, and then slightly adjust the dish. You can rotate it from side to side, up and down and you can rotate the dish like a steering wheel.

    • 4

Make small adjustments when you re-peak a Dish Network satellite dish, communicating frequently with the person inside to see how those changes affect the signal. Continue making slight adjustments until the satellite signal is “Strong” on the signal meter.

    • 5

Lock down all of the bolts you loosened previously to secure the satellite dish in its position.
