1
Print out an outline of a mermaid (see resources). You could also trace a picture of a mermaid or draw one freehand. Don't worry about about finding a detailed picture; you only need a very basic outline.
-
2
Set out colored pencils, a glue stick, glitter, construction paper and colored ribbon.
-
-
3
Let your child decorate the mermaid in any way she likes, using the supplies on the table.
-
4
When your child is finished, help him cut out the mermaid and glue it to the end of a Popsicle stick.
-
5
Make a crystal water cave for your mermaid by taking the lid of a cardboard box (a shoebox will work) and cutting out the middle of the middle, so it looks like a picture frame.
-
6
Tape a sheet of perspex and glue it to the inside of the lid. Let your child glue plastic jewels and other embellishments to the outside of the box lid.
-
7
Take your white paper and let your child draw things you would find in the ocean, like sea kelp and fish. When she is finished, glue the back of the paper and place it inside the cardboard box (not the lid).
-
8
Cut a tiny slit in the bottom of the cardboard box, stick the bottom of your mermaid Popsicle stick in the slit, and place the lid on top. Now your new mermaid has a home.
