Vinyl roofs on convertible cars, sometimes called rag top roofs, are an accessory that adds a sporty touch any car. The methods of cleaning vinyl are simple to do and can be done by anyone; it is just a matter of being aware of what is good for the vinyl roof and what can damage the top.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean sap and bird droppings as soon as possible with a nylon brush and water. If the droppings or sap remain on the vinyl, apply the foam cleaner to the area and allow it to sit for a few minutes before scrubbing away. Rinse with clean water and wipe with a clean rag to remove any residue.

    • 2

Wash the top when washing the car. Apply the vinyl cleaner to the top and allow it to sit while you wash the rest of the car. Return to the top when you have finished cleaning the rest of the car. Scrub the top in circular motions across the entire top. Rinse with water and dry with a clean rag. Apply vinyl protectant to the top, allowing it to dry.

    • 3

Use automatic car washes that have water jets and hanging cloths. Car washes that have heavy barrel brushes can scratch and damage the vinyl top.
