How Do I Cancel a Yahoo! Messenger Account?

Yahoo! Messenger gives its users the ability to connect with different people from anywhere in the world through instant messenger. Users can also see and be seen via webcam, share photos with family and friends, and send and receive emails. To cancel your Yahoo! Messenger account you will have to cancel your Yahoo! ID. Therefore, you will not be able to send emails back and forth anymore or use any of the above-mentioned services associated with that Yahoo! ID.

Instructions

1. Sign in to your Yahoo! Mail account. Click on “Help” on the right side of the screen. Select “Mail Help”.

2. Choose “How do I Close my Yahoo! Account?” under the "Top Questions" category. Select the “Account Termination” link. At the password prompt, enter your Yahoo! password.

3. Enter your password again toward the bottom of the “Terminating your Yahoo! Account” page. In the box below the "password" box, type in the code as shown and click “Terminate this Account”. A screen will appear stating, “Your account has been deactivated and scheduled for deletion.”

4. Uninstall Yahoo! Messenger from your PC, if desired. Go to your computer’s Control Panel, select “Programs” and right-click to “Uninstall” to begin erasing Yahoo! Messenger from your computer. Your Yahoo! Messenger desktop icon will automatically disappear once the program is uninstalled.

Tips & Warnings

• If you would like to use Yahoo! Messenger again using the deactivated Yahoo ID, you may be able to reactivate your ID, particularly if the deactivation took place within 90 days. Sign in to your Yahoo! mail account with your old ID and enter the code as prompted. The system will tell you if you can reactivate the account. If so, reactivate and reinstall Yahoo! Messenger to begin using the service again.
