1
Check the interlocking C logo. On genuine Chanel bags the C on the right overlaps the left C on the left at the top, and the left C overlaps the right at the bottom. This is true whether the logo is brass, silver or just stitched.

2
Take a close look at the hardware, it should be made of the same material and be uniform in color, without having any areas that look like they’ve been rubbed off or discolored.

3
Touch the bag. Chanel bags are generally made of high-quality calfskin, but can sometimes be made of satin, jersey or other exotic skins. Knock-offs are generally made of PVC or a very thin, low-quality leather that can look discolored.
-
4
Find the serial number. It should have a seven- or eight-digit number, depending on the year it was made. Serial numbers can be easily imitated, so don’t use this as your only indicator.
-
5
Look at the country of origin tag, it should read France or Italy, not China or India.
-
6
Examine carefully the quality of construction. The seaming should be evenly spaced and not be unraveled. The straps should be of even length and the lining should not be glued in.

Tips & Warnings
Consider the price one of the top indicators of the bag’s authenticity, especially if it’s the 2.55 style. But just because the price may be high doesn't necessarily mean it's a real Chanel.
