How to Freeze Rice Pudding

Rice pudding recipes generally make a large batch, more than can be consumed in a single meal. It's easy to freeze rice pudding to preserve it for future desserts. Freezing the pudding keeps it from going bad for several months. Because rice pudding is a bit lumpy and grainy, it thaws much more smoothly than other types of pudding. It's best to freeze rice pudding that does not contain raisins as the cold air can sap them of moisture. Add the raisins to the pudding after thawing it, if desired.

• Freezer-safe containers
• Saucepan
• Milk

Instructions

1. Cool the rice pudding completely before attempting to freeze it. This will help keep it from developing freezer burn.

2. Spoon the rice pudding into freezer-safe containers, leaving about 1 inch of room in the top. Make sure to freeze rice pudding in servings that you can easily eat in a single meal. The thawed pudding should not be refrozen.

3. Label the containers with the type of food and the date and slide them onto a level surface in the freezer. Rice pudding can stay in the freezer for up to three months.

4. Thaw the pudding by removing the frozen block from the container and placing it in a saucepan. Pour 2 to 3 tbsp. of milk into the pan and heat the pudding on low, stirring occasionally, until it is thawed and heated through.
