How Do I Block People on Thunderbird Email?

If you constantly get unwanted email from a certain someone, such as a scammer, con artist, former ex or annoying friend, you can configure Thunderbird to not show you these emails. While you cannot block emails per se using Thunderbird, you can set up a filter to prevent the email from entering your inbox and continuing to annoy you, allowing you to deal with emails from entities you care about.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the "Tools" section of Thunderbird, then click on "Message Filters."

    • 2

Give the filter an name in the window that appears.

    • 3

Select the "Match any of the following" button.

    • 4

Choose what you want to match in the first box, such as names, subjects, or email addresses.

    • 5

Select "contains" in the second box.

    • 6

Select what should be contained in the filter. Again, place the name or email address of the person you want to block.

    • 7

Select "Move message to" in the "Perform Action" section, then set the adjacent box to "Trash." Press OK to save the filter.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can add additional filters as well when setting up the filter.

  • If the individual persists by using different names or emails, you may need to get the police or your Internet Service Provider involved.
