How to Incubate Green Tree Snake Eggs

Breeding and raising green tree snakes as pets for yourself or as part of a breeding program can be profitable; green tree snakes are beautiful snakes and make great pets for people who love reptiles. The most important part of breeding green tree snakes is to ensure that their eggs are incubated properly. Eggs that are too hot or too cold will not survive, so it is important to pay close attention to every aspect of your incubation process. Green tree snakes are native to Australia, and so require a good deal of heat and humidity to both breed and hatch.

With a few precautions in place, you can successfully incubate the eggs of your green tree snake.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the eggs once the female green snakes have laid them; green snakes will bury their eggs in a corner or sheltered area of their containers. It is possible to successfully hatch green snake eggs that are left in a climate-controlled tank or container, but using an incubator makes it easier to control temperature and humidity for the developing eggs.

    • 2

Use an incubator that allows you to monitor the temperature and humidity of the inside of the incubator at all times.

    • 3

Keep the temperature at 83 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit and the humidity at 75 to 80 percent.

    • 4

Space the eggs evenly throughout the incubator. Some incubators will have individual holders for each egg, but leave 1 to 2 inches between each egg if there are not containers for the eggs.

    • 5

Monitor the incubator closely; check the temperature and humidity hourly or every few hours each day to maintain the constancy of the environment. Check the eggs for signs of hatching as time passes; be ready to transplant the baby snakes to their own containers once they have hatched.
