Instructions

    • 1

Purchase an organic soap base either online or at a craft supplies stores. GoPlanetEarth.com carries organic melt-and-pour soap base that is available in one-, four- or eight-pound blocks.

    • 2

Select soap molds to use such as muffin trays, small bowls or cups. A bread-loaf pan can also be used to create a large loaf of soap that can be cut down later. Grease the molds with organic vegetable oil and set aside.

    • 3

Place a large stockpot on the stove and fill halfway with water. Place a smaller stockpot or a clean coffee can inside the pot to act as a double boiler. Heat the water over medium heat and slowly add the chopped-up soap base to the inner pot.

    • 4

Once the soap base is melted, additional elements can be stirred into the soap such as 1 tbsp. organic olive oil, 1 tbsp. organic honey, organic ground oatmeal or a couple drops of organic coconut or calendula oil. If your child has skin sensitivity, it is best to not add additional elements to the soap base.

    • 5

Pour or ladle soap base into soap molds. Allow the soap to fully cool overnight.

    • 6

Gently remove soap from molds by using a butter knife to help them release. If using a bread-loaf pan, turn the pan over to help the bar of soap remove from the mold. Place the loaf of soap on a cutting board and use a sharp kitchen knife to cut sections of soap, being careful as soap can slip when you cut it.

    • 7

Enjoy soap the next time baby takes a bath, or wrap in paper to give as baby gifts.

Tips & Warnings

  • The pot used to heat the soap may not be used again for cooking.

  • Avoid boiling soap base. Wear oven mitts when working with hot soap base.
