How Do I Back Up My Toshiba Laptop Computer?

It is always a good idea to back up your important files, no matter what kind of computer you are running. This holds true for a Toshiba laptop computer. However, you have several different options when it comes to backing up your files. Depending on what you have available on your system you can use a burnable CD/DVD, USB flash drive or an external hard drive.

Things You'll Need

• Toshiba laptop computer
• External hard drive/USB flash drive
• Blank CD or DVD

Instructions

External Device

1. Connect the external device to an available USB port on the Toshiba laptop computer.

2. Click the "Start" button, followed by "Computer" . Its "My Computer" on older versions of Windows

3. Double-click the removable drive's icon to open a window displaying all of the files currently stored on the drive.

4. Click-and-drag the files you want to back up into the open device window. Once the copy is complete, you can eject the drive from the computer--close out the window, right-click the drive icon and select "Eject".

Blank CD/DVD

1. Insert the blank CD or DVD into the CD/DVD burner on the Toshiba laptop computer.

2. Launch the burning software installed on your system. Select to create a data disk so you copy a variety of different file types onto the computer.

3. Click-and-drag the files you want to back up from your Toshiba Laptop into the main viewing area of the CD/DVD burner.

4. Click "Burn" and the contents are placed onto the CD or DVD
