How to Make Beaded Animal Key Chains
Making beaded animal key chains is a fun activity for children, who can give the key hains as gifts or hang them on backpacks and zipper pulls. Patterns for making a variety of beaded animals are available on websites such as makingfriends.com or dltk-kids.com. While the number and color of beads you use will depend on the pattern you select, the basic beading techniques are the same for all these patterns.
Instructions

1
Cut your lacing to the length specified in your pattern.
-
2
Fold the lacing in half, and lay it on a flat surface. Place the split keyring on top of the lacing loop.
-
-
3
Bring the two ends of the lacing up over the split keyring and through the loop of the lacing. Pull to tighten the resulting half-hitch knot. The lacing is now attached to the keyring.
-
4
Place all the beads you need for the first row of your pattern on one of the pieces of lacing.
-
5
Take the end of the other piece of lacing and push it through the same row of beads, starting from the opposite direction. Pull both strings tight.
-
6
Repeat for each row of your pattern. Check the pattern as you begin each row to see how many beads to string and what color to use.
-
7
When you complete the pattern, tie the two pieces of lacing together with a double knot.

Tips & Warnings
Instead of the lacing, you can use any type of ribbon or string that will go through the pony bead holes. If your string frays, dip the ends in glue or wrap them with a small piece of transparent tape.
