Coupons have been used by businesses for decades as a marketing tool to increase sales. Coupons can also be made at home and given as gifts to friends and family. Creating blank coupons allows you to quickly customize a gift to a friend or a promotional offer to a potential customer. Coupons do not have to be printed by a high-priced professional printing company to be effective; they can be created using a variety of readily available materials.

Things You'll Need

  • Card stock or other printable material
  • Template design
  • Computer and printer or markers
  • Scissors

Create Blank Coupons

Determine what you will be using your coupons for and who you will be giving them to. Are they for a business purpose? To give away as gifts? The purpose of your coupons should be reflected in the overall design. For example, if you plan to hand them out to potential customers, you may want to create them using word processing or image creation software for a more professional look.

Choose which paper or other medium you will be using. Card stock is commonly used for coupons because it is durable and aesthetically appealing. Card stock can be purchased at any office supply or craft store.

Get a blank piece of paper and sketch out how you want your blank coupon to look. This will be your template. Some coupons consist of words only, while others incorporate a picture or logo. If you are creating your coupon for business purposes, your coupon could consist of your business name and logo with blank space for writing a promotional offer. If the coupon is for a gift, you could incorporate a picture that you have taken or found online. Clip Art could also be used for this purpose or you can simply draw a picture or design on your coupon. There are no rules as to how your coupon must look, so be creative with your design.

Use your template to re-create your design using computer software and a printer, or draw it directly onto your card stock using markers or colored pencils.

Use scissors to cut your coupon down to a manageable size or to separate it from your other blank coupons if you printed more than one on your sheet of card stock. Scissors can also be used to create decorative edges on your coupon.
