How to Clean Under Car Hood Insulation
For many people, their car is the bright spot in their life. They can spend hours cleaning and washing it to make it shine better than it did when it was new. Some of these people do it because they simply enjoy a clean vehicle, and others do it for competition. Detailing a vehicle for a car show or car show contest is a time-consuming task. There are relatively easy and commonly know methods of washing and waxing the paint job; but what about those areas that are typically forgotten when you clean your vehicle?

Park your vehicle and open the hood. Allow the engine bay to cool down if you have been driving the vehicle and it's warm.

Using a non-solvent-based cleaner, lightly spray the insulation under the hood. Make sure to cover it completely; however, do not saturate it. Use a light mist.

Using a clean towel or cloth, gently wipe the insulation to remove the cleaner and any dirt and grime. Do not scrub the insulation as damage may occur. Repeat Step 2 if necessary and gently wipe again with a clean towel.

Tips & Warnings
If detailing your entire engine bay, it is best to clean the insulation on the hood first. This will prevent dirt from falling onto your clean engine.
Never use a solvent-based cleaner to clean anything under your hood. It can result in fire.
Never use a hose and water or detergent to clean the insulation. It will only become water logged and deteriorate.
