How Do I Create My Own Personalized Signature for Texting on a BlackBerry Pearl?

The BlackBerry Pearl comes with an option to use a personalized signature for email messages. However, it doesn’t support sending a personalized signature for text messages even though some other phone models do. The idea is that a text should be a short message to contact someone you already know. However, there is a workaround using the autotext feature on your BlackBerry Pearl that will help you put a personalized signature in your text messages.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your BlackBerry Pearl. Press the "Menu" key to navigate to the Applications page. Click “Options.” Click “Autotext.”

    • 2

Press the "Menu" key. Click “New.” Choose a keyboard shortcut and input it under “Replace.” (For example, “zz” is a popular choice.)

    • 3

Input your desired personalized signature for your text messages under “With.” Press the "Menu" key and click “Save.”

    • 4

Go to the Applications page. Click “Messages.” Press the "Menu" key and click “Compose SMS message.” Input your desired message. Hit the "Return" button and type the keyboard shortcut you chose in Step 2. Hit the space bar. Your text message signature should now appear. Press the "Menu" key and click “Send.”

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a keyboard shortcut that you wouldn’t normally type. This is why “zz” is such a popular choice. You don’t often type “zz” without any other letters.

  • Keep any personalized signature short. Unlike email messages, text messages are supposed to be short forms of communication and aren’t meant to have personalized signatures.
