How Do I Give My Xbox 360 a Static IP Address?

The Xbox 360 is a popular gaming console developed by Microsoft with numerous features such as high-definition capability, Blu-ray disc playback and Xbox Live. Xbox Live is a pay service allowing gamers to connect their Xbox 360s to the Internet and compete against millions of other users online. There are a few ways to set up your Xbox Live connection settings, including creating a static IP address. An IP address is a unique identity number given to your device. A static IP address allows you to set a specific IP address for your connection rather than having your router automatically sign it.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Xbox 360 and navigate to the dashboard.

    • 2

Go to “My Xbox,” then scroll all the way to the right to select “System Settings.”

    • 3

Select “Network Settings” from the list. This opens a new screen where you can test your connection, among other things.

    • 4

Select “Configure Network.” This opens a new screen where you can set your IP address.

    • 5

Select “IP Settings” and change it to “Manual.”

    • 6

Change the “IP address” as desired, leaving the “Gateway” and “Subnet Mask” settings unchanged. Change only the last three digits of the IP address.
