How to Update a Graphics Card on a Dell XPS
Changing the graphics card on your Dell XPS laptop can be an important and necessary upgrade to make once the original card begins to show signs of age. The graphics card is responsible for the performance and quality of the display that you receive on your computer screen during everyday use. While changing the card may sound like a difficult task, it can be done with the proper tools and instructions.

Remove the panel on the right-hand side of the bottom of your laptop using the screwdriver. Detach the keyboard by removing the screws beneath it on the bottom of the computer and lifting it out of place. As you raise the keyboard out of place, disconnect the cord that connects it with the rest of the computer.

Remove the display assembly by removing the screws on the bottom and back of the screen. Once the screws have been removed, disconnect the cables that connect the video and wireless internet to the rest of the machine. Push down on the latch on the bottom of the laptop and slide the optical drive out of place.

Remove the outer shell of the bottom half of the computer by removing the screws that hold it in place. Locate the graphics card (usually in the top right-hand corner) and remove the two screws that hold it in place. Replace the old card with the new card and screw it back into place with the same screws that were just removed. Reconnect all of the above cables and screws exactly as they were taken apart. Turn the laptop on to test to make sure the new graphics card is working properly.
