How to Delete Sent Messages on Facebook

You can send private messages to friends and family members via Facebook's email messaging system. When you longer want your sent messages, you can delete them. This only deletes them from your messaging inbox though, not from the inbox of the recipient.

Instructions

    • 1

      Log in to Facebook website.

    • 2

Click "Messages" in the left sidebar.

    • 3

Click the magnifying glass icon next to the search box on the top-right of the page to view only your sent messages.

    • 4

Scroll through the list to find the conversation that contains the message that you want to delete.

    • 5

Click the "Actions" button to open the drop-down menu. Select "Delete Messages..." from the menu.

    • 6

Click in the box next to the sent messages that you want to delete.

    • 7

      Click the "Delete Selected" button.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you delete a sent message by accident, click the "Undo" link.

  • If the "Undo" link is not pressed immediately after deleting a sent message, the message cannot be recovered.
