How to Create Drum Tracks With Software
Drums form the bones of many styles of music. Rhythm drives a composition forward and can spark extra interest if rendered and composed creatively. With the innovations of MIDI and digital recording, drum tracks can be created with recording software and samples of real or digital drum sounds. This method requires little equipment and can be done from any location where a desktop or laptop computer can function. This method works without the aid of recording-studio microphones or conditions. Hundreds of programs give musicians and producers endless possibilities, depending on their preferences and musical tastes. Although the range is wide, these programs run on a few common principles.

1
Open your MIDI-capable recording software. Attach MIDI controller to personal computer. Most commonly, a MIDI controller attaches via a USB cable, but wireless controllers also are available. Check the "Device Inputs" portion of your program, and select your controller from the available devices.
-
2
Select a desired drum sound from your program's bank of MIDI sounds and samples. Experiment with the keys of your controller to find the particular sounds that please you the most before recording. Press "Record" in your program's main console to record a performance.

3
Create and record multiple MIDI drum tracks to achieve more depth like an actual drum or percussion section. Basic drum kits consist of kick drum, snare and high-hat sounds but can have as many or few sounds as you desire.

4
Save and name your project so you don't lose your work. Save often, as audio recording takes up a lot of a computer's memory and could cause your computer to freeze or shut down unexpectedly.
