How to Remove Roxio

Roxio is a program that primarily serves to copy, convert or otherwise burn files to a disc. Like so many other computer programs, especially ones that come pre-installed as free trials on new computers, there is other software similar to Roxio. Should you desire to utilize a program that performs the same functions, deleting Roxio will free up space on your computer---ensuring that the program is completely and irrevocably removed, however, takes a bit of perseverance.

      Click on the "Start" button and search for "misconfig."

      Select "Startup" and click the "Disable All" button. Click the "Apply" button, then click "OK," and finally click the "Restart" button.

      Follow the link in the Resources section of this page to download "Windows Installer Clean Up Utility." Save this program to your desktop. On the desktop, open "msicuu2.exe" and follow the instructions to install the program.

      Click on "Start," then "All Programs," and finally "Windows Clean Up." Select any program that starts with "Roxio" or "Sonic," as well as "DirectXServiceInstall." Click on the "Remove" button.

      Click on "Start," then "My Computer." Click on "Organize," then "Folder and Search Options," then click on the "View" tab. Select "Show hidden folders" and click "Apply."

      Delete the following files:

      C:\Users\Username\App Data\Local\Roxio
      C:\Program Files\Roxio
      C:\Users\Username\App Data\Roaming\Roxio
      C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared

      Click on "Start" and search for "regedit." In the Registry Editor, click on "File," then "Export." Choose a location and name the file---make it something easily recognizable. Save the file.

      Click on "Start" and search for "regedit" again. This time, open the folder called "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" and find the folder called "Software." Inside this folder is one called "Roxio"---right-click on this folder and delete it. Repeat this step for the folder called "Sonic."

      Open the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" folder and find the "Software" folder inside. Inside this folder is one called "Roxio"---right-click and delete it. Repeat this step for the "Sonic" folder.

      Restart your computer.
