How to Run a Water Line to a Kenmore Fridge
Running a water line to a Kenmore fridge is easy if you have an existing ice maker water line valve in the wall behind the fridge. Even if you don’t, you can create your own water line supply by hijacking any vertical cold water pipe you find in the kitchen. Once you’ve created the water line, there are two possible ways to connect that line to a Kenmore fridge. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need
- Length of ¼-inch outside diameter copper tube
- Shutoff valve
- Compression nuts
- Couplings
- Drill with ¼-inch bit
- Wrenches

Turn the water supply off and drill a hole in the cold water pipe you want to use. Fasten the shutoff valve to the pipe with the pipe clamp that came with the valve. Tighten the packing nut and then the clamp screws. Slip the compression nut onto the copper tubing and insert into the outlet. Screw the compression nut onto the outlet end with a wrench.

Flush the line at the sink and check for leaks.

Turn the water supply off again and connect the copper tubing to the fridge. Either use a compression nut to connect to the inlet line on the back of the fridge and use the tube clamp on the back of the fridge to secure the tubing. Alternatively, remove the black nylon plug from the gray water tube on the back of the fridge if it has one and connect your new tube to a ¼-by-¼-inch coupling. Connect the coupling to the gray water tube, tightening by hand and then with two turns with a wrench. Or, discard the black nylon plug and connect the gray water line to an existing valve in the wall with the provided nut. Again, tighten by hand and then a further two turns with a wrench.

Tips & Warnings
Use a ½-inch to 1-1/4-inch vertical cold water pipe. Hijacking a vertical pipe is better because sediment won’t collect at the opening. In addition, the drill won’t get wet when you drill the hole.
