How to Wire-Wrap Quartz Points

Quartz points are roughly cylindrical pieces of the semi-precious quartz stone, and wire-wrapping them to make jewelry is a simple project that will give you a beautiful necklace or bracelet. Inexpensive quartz points can be purchased from online retailers or specialty shops, and wrapping them with wire is a project that can be completed quickly and easily. Whether you are making jewelry for yourself or someone else, wire-wrapped quartz points will make a beautiful pendant.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut three strands of craft wire that are each 10- to 20-inches long. Larger quartz points will need longer amounts of wire.

Use wire cutters to cut a 1- to 2-inch section of wire as well.

    • 2

Place the three pieces of wire against one another and find the center; wrap the 1- to 2-inch piece of wire around the center tightly to hold the pieces together.

    • 3

Bend the three pieces of wire together at the central wrapped point. This will give you two sections of wire to wrap around your quartz point.

    • 4

Use round-nose pliers to twist the wire sections together at the middle to form a loop; make sure the loop is wide enough to pass a chain through. Do not twist the wire too tightly, as it can snap or break.

    • 5

Place the loop at the back part of your quartz point near the top; this will give you a starting and ending point for the wire wrap.

    • 6

Wrap both sections of wires tightly around the front, sides and bottom of the quartz point. It is important to cover at least the sides and bottom of the point; otherwise, the quartz can fall out of the wire wrap.

Wrap individual strands around various sections and contours of your quartz point to give it a unique appearance.

    • 7

Wrap the excess pieces of wire around to the back of the point and twist them all together to form a closure. Cut off the end of the twist and file the edges to avoid cutting the wearer or snagging their clothes. Fold the remaining wire up against the back of the quartz to hold it all in place.

    • 8

Put a chain through the loop you created in your wire-wrapped quartz point.
