Measure your head to find out what size hairpiece you will need. Wrap a seamstress measuring tape around your head, placing the tape at your forehead, just above the eyebrows, and bring the tape around one side of the head and follow your hairline. When the tape has reached just above the ears, tuck the tape behind your ears to follow the hairline. Bring the tape around to the other side of your head, up from behind the ear and meeting the beginning of the tape at your forehead.
According to HeadCovers.com, if your head is 20 inches or smaller, you should wear a child-sized hairpiece. If your head is 21 inches or smaller you will fit into a petite hairpiece. The average wig will fit anyone with a head of 21.5 inches to 22.5 inches. A head larger than 22.5 inches will need a large hairpiece.
