A WBCAT file is a type of file used by Windows XP to back up important files, documents and system information. WBCAT files can become corrupted because of a virus, hard drive failure or an improper shutdown of your computer. Regardless of the cause, you can restore these files by using the System Restore utility built into the Windows XP operating system. This will reverse time to a point where the file was still intact.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Start menu and click on the "All Programs" list.

    • 2

Open the "Accessories" folder, then open the "System Tools" folder.

    • 3

      Select the "System Restore" option.

    • 4

Choose the option to "Restore my Computer."

    • 5

Pick a date from the on-screen calendar that was after the WBCAT file was created but before it became corrupted.

    • 6

Press "Next" to begin the restore process.
