How to Calculate Win Rate for Proposals

If you make your living writing proposals, or if writing proposals is a major part of your job, it can be useful to determine your win rate. That way you can make adjustments to your writing style and see if you can increase the rate at which your proposals are accepted. Your proposal win rate can be a useful statistic to put on your resume or to use in salary negotiations with your current or future employer. There are a couple ways you can calculate your rate.

Instructions

  1. Win Rate as a Percentage

    • 1

      Write the formula:

Win Rate = Number of wins / Total number of proposals x 100 percent.

    • 2

Analyze your performance and determine the total number of proposals you have written and the number of wins you have earned.

Example: You may have written 50 proposals, and won 30 of them.

    • 3

Plug in the numbers to calculate your win percentage:

      Example: 30 / 50 x 100 percent = 60 percent.

You have a 60 percent win rate.

    Wins Per Unit Time

    • 4

Use this equation if you are more interested in determining how many winning proposals you earn per day, per week or per year. Weeks will be used in this example:

Win Rate = Number of wins / Number of weeks it took to earn those wins.

    • 5

Analyze your performance to figure out your number of wins in a given number of weeks.

Example: You may have won 30 proposals in three weeks.

    • 6

Plug in the numbers to calculate your win rate:

      Example: 30 wins / 3 weeks = 10 wins per week

You have a win rate of 10 wins per week.
