How to Create an Outlook Calendar File for Importing

It is fairly simple to create an Outlook calendar file for importing into other applications or devices. Outlook provides the ability to save your calendar to a file. The calendar file format is standard in other application calendars like Google Calendar. Therefore, once the Outlook calendar file is created it is ready for importing into other calendar applications. The Outlook calendar is also very versatile, as it can sync with a BlackBerry or an Apple iPhone and it can also link to SharePoint calendars.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start > All Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Outlook." This will open Microsoft Outlook.

    • 2

Click "Calendar" to open your Microsoft Outlook Calendar view.

    • 3

Click "File > Save" and the "Save As" dialog box will be displayed. The "File Name:" and "Save as type:" drop down boxes already have the values populated for your calendar. If needed, change the "File Name:" but make sure the "Save as type:" value is "iCalendar Format."

    • 4

Click "Save" and a new "Save As" dialog box appears that allows you to specify the calendar information you want to include in the file. If needed, make the appropriate changes and click "OK." The Outlook calendar file is ready for importing.
