1
Use a North Face backpack with a waist belt and bottom compression straps. Some models include the Big Shot, Wavelength, Recon and Surge. Unload any contents from the main compartment to allow the backpack to fold easily.
-
2
Lay the backpack on a table so the shoulder straps are on top and in the middle of the backpack. Fully tighten the shoulder strap adjustments by pulling on the loose end. Fold the backpack over so the top and bottom line up. Take the bottom compression straps and hook them to the top handle of the pack. This will keep the backpack in the folded position.

Adjust the length of the waist belt and put the new fanny pack around the waist; connect the buckle. The waist belt should provide enough support, but sew on additional straps and buckles as needed to fit comfortably.

Tips & Warnings
A smaller North Face backpack will be easier to convert into a fanny pack.
If your backpack has mesh water bottle pockets on the side, they can still be used on the fanny pack.
Avoid overloading the pack with equipment that could tear the seams.
