How to Crochet a Watchband

If you can crochet, you don't have to limit yourself to making only winter weather items or doilies. Use your crochet skills to make yourself a variety of jewelry accessories, from pendants to earrings to bracelets. If you want to add spice to an old watch, crochet a new watchband for it. Use elastic cording so the watchband will stretch easily over your hand to fit onto your wrist.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin with a starting chain stitch that matches the width of the dowel pin in your watch face. This pin will slide through the watchband to attach the band to the watch face, so you want it to fit snugly. Use your crochet hook and the elastic cording to chain an appropriate number of stitches, then make a round of single crochet stitches across these chains.

    • 2

Work the body of the watchband in single crochet stitches through the back loops. This means that instead of crocheting through both loops of every stitch, you will only crochet through the back loops. This will create a ribbed look to your finished watchband and also allow it to stretch more easily.

    • 3

Continue to crochet the watchband until it is long enough to stretch around your wrist securely. Finish off your last row and weave in the loose ends using an embroidery needle.

    • 4

Take the dowel pins out of the watch face and thread one through each end of the watchband. Snap the dowel pins back into the watch face to secure the band. Slide it over your wrist and wear it with pride.

Tips & Warnings

  • Adding a few beads to your crochet stitches will lend sparkle to your finished watchband.

  • If you want an adjustable closure, simply crochet the watchband in two pieces and add a button or snap to close it.
