How to Store Canned Soft Drinks
Soft drinks are not considered highly perishable but they can go bad, just like all canned items. If you store your canned soft drinks properly, however, the drinks should maintain their quality and flavor up to and perhaps even past the expiration date. Long-term (up to a year) storage of these drinks is very simple. You just need enough space and know the best conditions for storing them. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Use a dry cloth to wipe moisture and dust from the tops of the cans. This is prevent mildew growth on the cans while they are in storage.
-
2
Place unopened canned soft drinks in a cool, dry area such as a closed kitchen cupboard. Avoid placing cans in a sunny area. While the can protects the contents from direct sunlight, the sun will warm the product which could quicken the loss of quality.

Keep the oldest cans (the ones with the earliest expiration dates) near the front of the shelf for easy access. You should use these cans first. Keep rotating the cans this way, bringing the older ones forward, as you add new cans of soft drinks. Unopened cans of soft drinks have a shelf life of about a year; this means a year from when they were manufactured, rather than a year from when you bought them. Make sure to always check the expiration dates (the "best if used before" dates) before storing the drinks.

Tips & Warnings
Rinse the soft drink can, especially the top, with cool water before you open it. This is to remove dust or contaminants.
Avoid storing cans anywhere they might freeze, such as an unheated garage, because this could cause them to burst.
Avoid drinking from rusty, bulging cans. The risk of getting any food borne illnesses from soft drinks is pretty low but treat the drinks as you would other canned goods. When in doubt, throw it out.
