How to Prevent Mold in a Front Loading Washing Machine
Front load washers have grown increasingly popular in households, mainly due to their ability to conserve energy. Front loaders have tight seals around the door to prevent water from leaking out during washing. This is a common place for mold because there is a lack of air exchange within the tub of the washer. Mold thrives in damp, dark environments, hence the reason it loves washing machines. There are steps that can be taken to prevent mold in a front loading washer, keeping your laundry room and clothes fresh and mold-free. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Keep the door to your front loader open when not in use. This will allow air to flow freely to the washer.
-
2
Wipe down the door seal and glass after each load. Use a dry rag to remove excessive moisture from these common areas of mold growth.

3
Run a dehumidifier in your laundry room, especially if it is in a damp area of the home such as a basement. The dehumidifier will suck the humidity from the air, thereby inhibiting mold growth in the laundry room and washer.
-
4
Clean the soap dispenser on your washer at least once a month. Use a damp rag to wipe out any grime and excess soap from the dispenser. Follow up with a dry rag to remove any excessive moisture.
-
5
Use the proper amount of high efficiency detergent. Excessive detergent can leave soap and film in the tub and dispenser of the washer, encouraging mold growth.
-
6
Remove wet laundry from the washer immediately.
-
7
Run a cleaning cycle in your washer once a month. Run the wash cycle with hot water and 1 cup of chlorine bleach without any laundry in the machine.
