Instructions

    • 1

Remove the tackless strips around the perimeter of the room. Place a cat's paw pry bar next to the nail holding the tackless strip and gently hammer into the tackless strip, so it breaks into two. Pull the nail out with the hammer.

    • 2

Cut 4-foot pieces of the tackless strip with a tin snip. A tin snip is a sharp cutting tool available at your local hardware store. Place the cut tackless strips 1/2 the thickness of the carpet away from the wall. Make sure that the nail tips of the tackless strips are pointed toward the wall. Apply construction glue underneath the tackless strips and press them in place. Allow the glue to dry for 24 hours.

    • 3

Center the carpet. Place a knee kicker 1 foot away from one corner of the room. Press your knee down on the knee kicker to attach the carpet. Attach the adjacent wall and move along the entire wall of the room attaching the carpet.

    • 4

Set the carpet stretcher 6 inches away from the opposite corner of the room that you first attached the carpeting with the knee kicker. Press the lever of the carpet stretcher down to attach the carpet to the tackless strips. Go along the wall attaching the carpet with the carpet stretcher.

    • 5

Vacuum the carpet to fluff up the carpet fibers.

Tips & Warnings

  • Lay down the carpet so that the carpet pile is the same direction as it was originally.

  • Refrain from installing tackless strips in front of the door, because it will catch.
