Instructions

    • 1

Sweep your carpet with a broom to loosen any dirt and debris and make the pile stand up. Using long strokes, sweep debris into small piles to vacuum up later.

    • 2

Vacuum the carpet with long, firm strokes. Try to go over each area of the carpet at least four times.

    • 3

Treat stains with stain remover, which can be purchased in most grocery and drug stores. Spray the stain with the stain remover using a paper towel to press down on required areas to remove some of the moisture. Allow the stain remover to remain on the carpet for the time recommended by the manufacturer. For hard-to-remove stains, leave the stain remover on for 24 hours.

    • 4

Purchase or rent a steam carpet cleaner, which can be rented at most grocery stores. Most of the time the carpet cleaning solution is included with the machine, but if not, purchase solution in the store.

    • 5

Add the recommended amount of water and carpet cleaner to the steam cleaning machine, which likely requires a large amount of hot water aded to a small amount of cleaner.

    • 6

Deep-clean your carpet starting at one corner of the room. Walk backward pulling the steam cleaner and spraying solution onto the carpet. Go back over the section to suck up moisture. Do not spray solution at that time. Go over each section multiple times if necessary.
