How to Make Natural Hair Gel with Flax Seeds and Aloe

Overloading your body with chemicals is never a good idea. Same goes for your hair. If you regularly use unnatural products on your hair, it could damage your hair. That's why I like to make my own natural hair products. Besides, I don't believe in animal testing and it can be hard at times to find companies who create great products that also don't test on animals. If I've made it I know where it comes from.

This hair gel recipe uses two of my favorite natural ingredients - flax seeds and aloe vera gel. It styles gently while taming frizz and won't weigh the hair down.

Things You'll Need

  • 3 tablespoons flax seeds
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup aloe vera gel
  • 3-5 drops essential oil of choice (vanilla, lavender, and rose are my favorites)

In a small saucepan combine flax seeds and water and bring to a boil.

Lower heat and simmer gently for 10-15 minutes making sure that it doesn't burn. Stir it constantly to prevent it from thickening or burning. Your goal is to let it thicken slightly.

Remove from heat and strain immediately into small bowl. Let cool completely.

Add aloe vera gel and essential oil and stir until well combined.

Transfer to an airtight plastic or glass container. Store away from heat and light for up to two weeks. Style your hair as usual.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't think you will use the whole amount in two weeks you can freeze part of it in plastic bags and remove from freezer when ready to use.
