Pinatas are a great party activity and decoration. A pacifier shaped pinata is the perfect addition for a baby shower, especially a co-ed shower as it gives the men something to look forward to. The pacifier pinata can be any size and even used for a table centerpiece before being broken open.
Things You'll Need
- Mixing bowl
- 2 cups of flour
- 3 cups of water
- Oval shaped balloon
- Spray glue
In a large bowl, mix two cups of flour with three cups of water. Cut newspaper into long one-inch wide strips. Blow up an oval-shaped balloon and tie in a knot. Dip the strips of newspaper into the bowl to soak then carefully place them on the balloon. Cover the balloon entirely, leaving a small hole no larger than the size of a quarter open at the top.
Set the pinata aside for a couple hours to dry. Then repeat the newspaper laying process to create another layer. Let dry and repeat once more to create a hard shell exterior. Then stick a needle into the hole and pop the balloon. Pull the balloon out and remove it. Fill the pinata with baby socks, mittens and other baby items as a surprise for the mom-to-be. Cover the hole with the wet newspaper and allow to dry.
Cut a circle out of cardboard slightly larger than the size of the balloon. Then cut out a smaller circle, about two inches smaller than the first one. Cut it in half so you have a half circle. Cut the inside of the circle out so you are left with a handle-like shape.
Cover the cardboard circle and half-circle handle shape with the same wet newspaper as the balloon. Layer the newspaper on the cardboard pieces and let dry. Repeat the process a couple times until you have a hard shell on the cardboard.
Spray craft glue onto the center of the circular cardboard. Press the oval balloon onto the circle and hold in place for a minute while it dries. Then spray glue onto the half-circle handle and glue it onto the back side of the circle. Hold it in place and allow it to dry.
Paint the pacifier pinata as you see fit. Poke two holes into the pacifier handle and string a rope through it to hang it up.
